Mike Sonko, a former governor of Nairobi, had his Facebook page removed apparently for disparaging the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) community.
Sonko, who had a 2.5 million-strong Facebook following, said in a statement on Tuesday that his profile was taken down as a result of complaints from the LGBTQ community regarding his remarks.
Additionally, he asserted that the LGBTQ community members gave him an ultimatum: either apologize to them or ask Facebook to reinstate his page.
“Hawa *** wako na nguvu,” the speaker said, referring to the LGBTQ community. Sonko posted in part, “Wamecomplain to FB mpaka my page of 2,500,000 followers ikakuwa disabled until I apologies to them then appeal to Facebook.
Yet the outspoken politician pledged not to apologize and to carry on acting as he does on Twitter.
