In Tanzania, a man is in critical condition after an elephant attacked him while posing for a selfie with the animal.
According to authorities, the elephant was part of a herd that escaped a conservation area in the northern Manyara region and was eating farm crops in one of the villages.
The elephants became agitated after a group of locals approached them while taking selfies, according to the regional police commissioner.
It attacked one of the men and injured him.
“The man has been admitted to Kiteto District Hospital for treatment…
“He’s made some progress,” George Katabazi said.
Human-wildlife conflict is common in Tanzania, where dry spells frequently cause wildlife to stray onto farms in search of food.
