Former Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet has been named Deputy National Security Advisor by President William Ruto.

Head of the Public Service Felix Koskei appointed Boinett, who served as IG from 2015 to 2019, to the powerful position in a gazette notice.

Koskei also announced the appointment of former Defence Cabinet Secretary Monica Juma as National Security Council Secretary.

“It is hereby notified for the general information of the public that the National Security Council has appointed—Joseph Boinnet to be the Deputy National Security Advisor,” according to the notice.

“It is announced for the general public’s information that the National Security Council has appointed Monica K. Juma as Secretary of the National Security Council.”

Ruto named Monica Juma as National Security Advisor when he unveiled his cabinet in 2022, after serving in the previous cabinet.

Boinnet ran unsuccessfully for the Elgeyo Marakwet Governorship in the 2022 August elections.
