Satish Kaushik, a Bollywood actor and director, died at the age of 66.

Nishaan Kaushik, the actor’s nephew, confirmed his death, saying the actor died of a heart attack on Thursday morning, March 9, in India’s capital Delhi.

Anupam Kher, Satish’s best friend, also paid tribute to the Bollywood icon on Twitter, writing: ‘I know ‘death is the ultimate truth of this world.’ But I never imagined I’d be writing this about my best friend #SatishKaushik while still alive.

‘Such a sudden end to a 45-year friendship!! SATISH, life will never be the same without you! ‘Oh, Shanti!’

Satish rose to international prominence after appearing in the 2007 British drama Brick Lane.

Satish was born in Delhi’s Karol Bagh in 1956 and attended Kirori Mal College, where he discovered his passion for theatre.

He then attended the National School of Drama before enrolling at the Film and Television Institute of India. He began directing in 1993, but his first two Bollywood films, Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja and Prem, starring Sridevi, were box office flops.

In his long and illustrious career, the filmmaker worked on nearly 100 films.

His most recent film, Kaagaz, was released in 2021 and told the story of a man who is declared legally dead due to a government error and must prove his identity. Shashi Kaushik, Satish’s wife, survives him. The couple married in 1985 and had their daughter Vanshika through surrogacy in 2012. The couple also had a son, who died tragically at the age of two in 1996. His death cause has not been revealed.
