A man was detained and charged in court after mailing a commercial sex worker a bogus cash transfer

    A guy by the name of Oni Samuel has been charged with cheating Blessing Olaitan, a commercial sex worker, of N120,000 before a Magistrates court.

    Samuel, who was apprehended by members of the State Command and Civil Defense Corps and then arraigned in court on Thursday, March 9, was charged with committing the crime last week.

    After engaging in sexual activity with her, it was said that he demanded N80,000 cash from her and made a commitment to give it to her along with another N15,000 as payment for the services she provided.

    Olaitan claimed that after finding out later that the transfer she received from the defendant was fraudulent. The culprit was charged with conspiracy, theft, and two counts of annoying in court.

    The accusation stated;

    Theft of a sum of one hundred and twenty thousand Naira from Mrs. Blessing Olaitan was committed by you, Oni Samuel “M,” and others at large on March 1, 2023, in Alagbaka, Akure, within the jurisdiction of this Honorable Court. This was a violation of and punishable under Section 516 of the Criminal Code Law, Cap. 37, Vol. 1 Laws of Ondo State, 2006.

    That you, Oni Samuel, committed an offense contrary to Section 383 and was punished under Section 390 of the Criminal Code Law Cap 37, Vol 1 Laws of Ondo State, 2006 by stealing a sum of one hundred and twenty thousand naira from Mrs. Blessing Olaitan on March 1, 2023, in Alagbaka, Akure within the jurisdiction of this honorable court.

    Samuel entered a not guilty plea to the accusations, and his attorney, Barrister E.O. Nifemi, asked with the judge to release Samuel on bail. But, Mr. David Ebriku, the NSCDC prosecutor, contested the bail request and asked the court to remand the defendant because he might run.

    Tope Aladejana, the magistrate, set the defendant’s bail at N200,000 with two sureties each contributing the same amount. The hearing in the case was postponed until April 17, 2023.
