Residents of Nyamwansu, Tabaka Ward, in South Mugirango, Kisii, are fearful after a coffin with a picture of a person was discovered dumped in the community.
The coffin was discovered outside Mzee Kayusi’s compound, a respected elder in the community who is still alive.
The incident has caused residents to be fearful and confused, as it is thought to be a bad omen.
A coffin is only supposed to hold the remains of a deceased person, and the presence of a picture of a living person is considered a taboo among Kisiis.
The community is in shock, with many wondering who could have put the picture in the coffin and for what reason.
The authorities have been called in to investigate the incident and ensure that similar incidents do not occur in the future.
The community also intends to hold a cleansing ceremony to ward off any bad luck brought on by the incident.
