The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union (KMPDU) has accused the government of failing to follow through on its promise to review the 2017-2022 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

In an interview with Citizen TV on Thursday, KMPDU Secretary-General Davji Atella revealed that, despite the doctors’ decision to suspend their strike for 60 days, the government had yet to fulfill their promise.

“On January 4, 2023, we sat with the Council of Governors, Ministry of Health and Ministry of Labour and agreed on a framework to ensure that the CBA that was signed in 2017 is fully implemented. “We’ve been waiting for the report of the multi-agency committee that was meeting,” Atella explained.

Atella warned that the medical professionals would have no choice but to carry out their planned strike.

“If the government does not comply with this, we will resort to industrial action,” said the secretary-general of the KMPDU.

The doctors demanded salary increases, the posting of interns, the provision of working tools, and the establishment of call rooms.
