Charity Ngilu, a former Kitui governor, made her first public appearance in Homa Bay months after Azimio la Umoja lost the presidential election in 2022.

Ngilu, an ally of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, congratulated Homa Bay governor Gladys Wanga on the court’s decision to uphold her election.

Ngilu was joined at the celebrations by other female leaders who had supported Wanga throughout her court battle. Beatrice Elachi, MP for Dagoreti North, was among them.

Ngilu spoke about Wanga’s election, describing her as an experienced leader who would help the lakeside county grow.

She avoided questions about her whereabouts and the rivalry between Raila and President William Ruto.

“The people of Homabay made no mistakes. We wish her (Wanga) the best of luck as she prepares to serve.”

“Let her serve confidently and transparently, and even forgive those who wasted her six months in court because she was too preoccupied with these court matters and couldn’t concentrate,” she said in an interview.

Wanga’s birthday coincided with the court victory celebrations, and the governor was surprised with a cake.

Ngilu took the lead in wishing Wanga a happy birthday, singing songs, and presenting her with other gifts.

As the governor cut the cake, she summoned Wanga’s husband, George, to join them at the table.

During the 2022 General Election campaigns, the former Kitui governor was a vocal supporter of Raila.

Notably, she dropped out of the gubernatorial race in favor of Jubilee Party candidate David Musila.

Ngilu was expected to be appointed to a Cabinet position in Raila’s government.

Raila, on the other hand, kept a low profile after losing.
