Dr. Margaret Nyakang’o, the controller of the budget, has exposed a serious scandal in which former president Uhuru Kenyatta and former Treasury Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yatani coerced her into signing a supplemental budget for Sh 11 billion just five days before the presidential election on August 9, 2022.

Nyakang’o presented what she claimed to be text messages between her and Yatani pushing her to speed up the transaction in documents submitted on Tuesday to the Parliamentary Public Petitions Committee.

Nyakang’o informed Yatani during the call, which the papers indicate took place on August 4, 2022, between 3:33 pm and 3:39 pm, that the request would require time to be fulfilled.

“I’m still out of the office, but the timing calls for up until tomorrow.”

The official replied, “You need to figure out how to cope with it. I’m sorry, but I’ll try.

The Treasury official previously stated that Sh1 billion of the funds would be given to the Office of the President for security-related initiatives on April 1, 2022.

This is a paper with WhatsApp messages from Yatani attempting to coerce Nyakango into signing the Sh 11 billion budget.
