A pastor is being held by police after being arrested in connection with the murder of a 35-year-old woman last month.

Christopher Kiptum Keter, 50, has been on the run since February 8, 2023, after killing Christine Makena Maingi.

On Tuesday, March 7, he was flushed out of his hiding in Embakasi’s Mukuru Kwa Njenga slums.

Surveillance footage and cell phone conversations recovered by detectives proved that the two were together on the nights of February 5th and 6th.

Christine’s rotting body was recovered two days later in a Ruiru apartment block.

Pills were discovered at the crime site, giving detectives the idea that she committed herself due to a drug overdose.

An autopsy on the body, however, ruled out a narcotics overdose.

The autopsy report found that she died as a result of strangling, ruling out any possibility of suicide.

The dead and the pastor met for prayer sessions on a regular basis.

When she was slain, the pastor went to her parents’ home in Ruiru to pray for her.

Her folks had gone upcountry.

According to family members, Makena introduced the suspect as a pastor and verified that they would meet for prayer sessions on a daily basis.

They initially met when traveling from Mombasa to Nairobi earlier this year.

The suspect is in police custody and will be arraigned on Thursday for murder in violation of Penal Code Section 203.

Makena was laid to rest in Meru County on February 18th.
