A Tuesday incident at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters on Kiambu Road appears to show that President William Ruto is launching the political career of former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i.
DCI had requested Matiang’i come before it and provide details on the purported police raid on his home in Karen last month.
Around 8.30 a.m., Matiangi and 14 other attorneys arrived at the office building. They were accompanied by fans who were shouting songs in support of the former no-nonsense CS.
Drama developed at the DCI headquarters, though, when Matiang’i and his attorneys were momentarily prevented from accessing the DCI officers by police at the gate.
Police claimed they needed to talk to someone before deciding who should go with him.
The former CS was waiting outside the gate for over ten minutes along with the attorneys Danstan Omari, Otiende Amollo, and Okong’o Omogeni.
At 8:47 am, Matiang and approximately 14 attorneys were permitted entry. He saluted the fans outside the DCI while maintaining a cool demeanor.
