A senior aide to President William Ruto has demanded the arrest of Raila Odinga, the leader of Azimio, and former President Uhuru Kenyatta after an audit revealed that Sh 34 billion had been stolen under the pretence of providing subsidies to Kenyans.

The report, which was certified by Controller of Budget Nancy Gathungu, detailed willful money theft, particularly when it came to paying for fuel subsidies throughout Uhuru’s rule.

Gathungu claimed that the government overpaid independent oil marketers Sh 555 million in one instance, despite the fact that the money was meant to stabilize fuel prices and shield Kenyans from increases brought on by fluctuations in the price of crude oil. Instead, the money ended up in the pockets of a select few, he claimed.

The special audit, which looked at the period from April 1 to June 30 of 2022, also discovered a number of possible avenues through which government workers might have improperly obtained funds from the public, either directly or indirectly.

Samson Cherargei, a senator from Nandi County, accused Uhuru and Raila of squandering subsidies in response to the audit.

Cherargei argued that the pair needs to be detained and punished for their avarice, which has plunged Kenyans into difficult economic circumstances.

This is the main driving force behind Maandamano, according to Uhuru and Tinga, who were the greatest beneficiaries of exploited subsidies that benefited their businesses rather than Kenyans. “EACC/DCI move swiftly zua moto and make arrests as soon as possible,” added Cherargei.
