The Anglican Church of Kenya’s Archbishop Jackson Ole Sapit has criticized Deputy Rigathi Gachagua’s allegations that the previous administration had fleeced public coffers.
Gachagua has charged former President Uhuru Kenyatta and his associates with plundering the country during the transition period.
Ole Sapit, on the other hand, stated that the issue highlighted by Gachagua was grave and should not be played to the public gallery.
“If there is any truth to what the Deputy President said, it should be unearthed so that Kenyans can know the truth.
“But, if it is just another conversation with no basis, I believe it would be irresponsible to amuse Kenyans on such serious problems,” he said.
The Archbishop underlined that he was not supporting corrupt persons, but rather that the correct mechanisms be used to address the matter.
“Kenyans deserve their money back if there is any evidence, but I hope what is being said is true.”
“Kenyans do not want to be drawn into a circus where scandals are discussed but no logical conclusion is reached,” he said.
Sapit also recommended the government to focus on issues that directly affect Kenyans.
“We are in hard circumstances; we are battling extended drought and high expense of living. “We should prioritize that,” he advised.
On March 4, the DP accused former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s close supporters of plundering Ksh16 billion just days before handing over power to President William Ruto.
