Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has returned to Kenya amid reports that he fled the nation for fear of being persecuted by President William Ruto’s theocratic government.
On February 19, Matiangi left the country, and several government officials, led by Vice President Rigathi Gachagua, claimed the former CS had gone into exile.
His lawyer, Dunstan Omari, stated that his client had been to the United Kingdom to attend to private family concerns.
Matiangi returned to Kenya on Sunday morning and will appear before the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters on Kiambu Road on Monday in connection with the purported raid on his residence in Karen.
Last month, Matiang’i alleged that police invaded his residence in an attempt to arrest him, which the Interior Ministry, Police, and DCI all rejected.
Matiang’i would provide police with details on the purported raid on his Karen property at DCI headquarters.
