Following a successful trial with Barcelona’s under-19 team, Ronaldinho’s son has signed his first contract with the Catalan club.
On Thursday, March 2, Barcelona unveiled the winger, who posed for photos alongside academy director Jose Ramon Alexanco.
Joao de Assis Moreira, known as Joao Mendes, will join the club’s fabled La Masia academy to hone his craft, following in his father’s footsteps, who made 145 appearances for the LaLiga giants.
According to ESPN, Mendes’ contract will last until the summer of 2024, at which point he will leave the U-19 team due to his age. They also revealed that once his current contract expires, the club will decide whether or not to extend his contract.
