A day after Kenya’s ruling elite and opposition figures revealed their opinions on the legalization of the Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) community, Russia’s government issued a warning to the globe.
On Thursday, President William Ruto and his deputy, Rigathi Gachagua, stated that they will not allow LGBTQ people to be legalized in Kenya, despite the Supreme Court’s verdict last week that permitted the group to organize a lobby.
At the same time, Raila Odinga, the leader of the Azimio One Kenya Alliance and Kenya’s de facto opposition leader, has said that legalizing the LGBTQ community is unconstitutional.
The Russian Embassy in Nairobi praised Ruto, Gachagua, and Raila for their harsh position on LGBTQ legalization in the country, adding that the government must protect the country’s essential principles or risk losing humanity.
“It is merely the beginning, the West will come for more. Old values must be preserved, or humanity will perish,” the Russian embassy warned in a tweet on Friday.
