According to reports from the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Fred Matiang’i, a former interior cabinet secretary, is not present in the nation.

The Kithure Kindiki-led Ministry highlighted that Matiang’i covertly left the country days before he was told to appear at DCI headquarters in a letter given to the DCI yesterday by the Immigration Department.

According to reports, the former CS flew to Amsterdam, Holland, on February 19 after boarding an aircraft at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

Dr. Okengo Matiang’i received the passport number on January 12, 2022. Also, he possesses a diplomatic passport.

Part of the letter stated, “He departed on February 19, 2023, through JKIA on KLM flight number KL 566.

The flight, which had a 12:04 am departure from JKIA on Sunday, February 19, and arrived at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport at 6:27 am, according to Dutch time, was tracked by FlightAware.

As Kenyan time is two hours ahead of the United States, the flight took eight hours.

For questioning about a suspected raid at his Karen house on February 8, Matiang’i was scheduled to appear before the DCI on Friday, February 24.

But he didn’t arrive because his attorney, Danstan Omari, said the ex-CS couldn’t appear before the DCI since the summons was not issued properly.

The reported self-exile of Matiang’i calls to mind the forced exile of Lawyer Miguna Miguna by the former CS for illegitimately swearing in Raila Odinga as the People’s President.
