Irene Masit, IEBC Commissioner, has fried her goose.
This comes after the tribunal headed by Aggrey Muchelule found her guilty of egregious misconduct for attempting to thwart the will of the electorate during the most recent general election.
The tribunal, which was presided over by Judge Aggrey Mucheule, stated in its report to President William Ruto that the allegations of gross misconduct made against Commissioner Masit were established to the necessary standard.
The claims of major violations of the constitution and the law against Commissioner Irene Masit have been proven to the required standard, the tribunal found after taking into account all the evidence presented.
Therefore, this Tribunal recommends that Commissioner Irene Cherop Masit be removed from her position as a member of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission to Your Excellency, the President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander in Chief of the Defense Forces, in accordance with the mandate assigned by Gazette Notice No. 14890 of December 2, 2022, and further in accordance and in compliance with Article 251(1) and (6).
The investigation was originally intended to focus on the four commissioners known as the “Cherera Four,” but Masit was left to face the tribunal after her coworkers Juliana Cherera, Francis Wanderi, and Justus Nyang’aya all withdrew before the proceedings began.
