President William Ruto’s administration has promised to fire all public servants who have reached the retirement age of 60.

Aisha Jumwa, the Public Service CS, has suspended all extensions for people over the retirement age to work in Ruto’s government.

According to Jumwa, a large number of government employees have formally requested that their contracts be extended.

However, the CS explicitly stated that no one would be allowed to remain on the government payroll after reaching mandatory retirement age.

“The Public Service Department has been made aware that public officers who have reached the mandatory age are making numerous requests for an extension.”

“I request that all extension review cases be suspended and any existing cases be revoked in order for proper legislation and succession management guidelines to be implemented throughout the Public Service,” the CS directed.

Jumwa stated that she followed the Public Service Commission Act, which was amended in 2009 and 2020.

With CS Jumwa’s directive, public officers who have reached the mandatory retirement age of 60, or 65 for persons living with disabilities, will retire with immediate effect, as required by the Act.

However, Ruto detractors claim that Jumwa’s directive is aimed at none other than Opposition Chief Raila Odinga, who is now 77 years old and continues to cause the government headaches.

According to critics, Ruto wants Raila to step down from politics so that he can rest.
