Former Chief Justice David Maraga, who currently serves as the leader of the National Police and Prisons Reforms Taskforce, has praised former President Uhuru Kenyatta for his outstanding performance, particularly with regard to the police, during his administration.

Maraga praised Uhuru for providing the cops with contemporary housing in a statement made yesterday after visiting Shimo la Tewa Prison and touring the officers’ homes.

He mentioned that the officers were pleased with the former head of state’s hard work since he began working there in 2013.

“We observed the jail guards’ and police officers’ housing there. Shimo la Tewa is where we went to look at possible officer housing. Some call for a significant amount of work.

There are bedsitters with two and three bedrooms in these two blocks. The strategy is excellent. If they could be finished, the officers would be quite happy.

“I’ve been informed that former president Kenyatta initiated the project. It’s a really smart idea. For this, I want to thank former President Kenyatta, he declared.

At the same time, Maraga urged his successor, President William Ruto, to use the plot of land at the prison to build the officers’ homes in a more contemporary style.

The only difficulty, according to the Chief Justice emeritus Ruto picked to lead the team, was obtaining funding to finish the project.

Just additional resources are needed for them. They would be delighted to see more of these structures built. They reside in gracious surroundings.

Shimo la Tewa has a large landmass of more than 800 acres, which can be very useful to the government.

“The contractor left because he hadn’t received payment. It should go without saying that all it requires is money to be finished. We’ll come up with our own suggestions,” he said.
