Robert Alai, the MCA for Kileleshwa Ward, asserts that the security detail for former President Uhuru Kenyatta has been withdrawn by President William Ruto’s administration.
Uhuru, who presided from 2013 and 2022, is required to be protected by the state at all times until he dies, according to the 2010 constitution.
Alai, however, claims that Uhuru’s security detail was cut off on Wednesday without any justification.
“Sources inside the security structures have informed me that former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s protection detail has been withdrawn.
Alai said on his social media profile that “the security detail was withdrawn yesterday; no justification was offered for the withdrawal.”
Two days after Ruto’s allies accused the former President of funding Azimio One Kenya Alliance demonstrations led by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, Uhuru’s security detail withdrew.
Uhuru was charged by Ruto’s aides with paying for the protests since he refuses to pay taxes.
