The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has summoned a close associate of Raila Odinga, the leader of the Azimio One Kenya Alliance party, for making inciting remarks on Sunday during the Azimio gathering at Jacaranda Grounds.

The committee called Nairobi County Assembly Majority Leader Peter Imwatok on Wednesday after he allegedly threatened to assault the State House and evict President William Ruto and First Lady Rachael Ruto with Azimio followers.

The NCIC letter instructed the subject to “take notice that you are thus called to appear before the National and Integration Committee on February 7, at 11 a.m., to help the commission with the aforementioned ongoing investigations.”

Failure to cooperate will result in additional charges under Sections 63(c) and 63(e) of the NCIC Act, the commission added.

This comes a few days after Korogocho MCA Absalom Odhiambo was detained on comparable charges.

Odhiambo was detained at Upper Hill while awaiting questioning by the commission after being called by NCIC.

On the other hand, a Nairobi judge on Wednesday unconditionally discharged Odhiambo, declaring that “the allegations were founded on non-existent statute.”
