Cartels funding Raila Odinga’s uprising against his government have received a warning from President William Ruto that their days of paying taxes are numbered.
Ruto made the astonishing accusation last week that cartels in the milk, coffee, and tea industries are funding Raila’s protest marches.
However, he threatened to be harsh on them and warned them against tax evasion.
The Head of State stated yesterday in Mombasa at the National Assembly Post Election Seminar that no one would be spared from paying taxes.
Ruto promised to make sure everyone pays taxes, including the former president who previously exempted himself from doing so. Former President Uhuru Kenyatta is thought to be one of the millionaires behind Raila’s rallies.
“We cannot continue to operate in a system where people in positions of power use various means to avoid paying taxes while those with less authority do so.
Every citizen must now pay taxes, and the decent individuals who used to be exempt from doing so now pay up.
“I want to assure them that they will pay tax, even if they fund demonstrations to avoid paying taxes.
This nation is not an animal farm where some people are more equal than others, said Ruto, adding that there should be no more exceptions.
