According to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, it is “too early” to discuss Russian President Vladimir Putin running for office in the 2024 election.

Putin has been in office since 1999, when he was first named prime minister, and is presently completing his fourth term as president. Later, after Boris Yeltsin resigned, he was appointed acting president.

Putin ratified constitutional modifications in 2021, making it possible for him to run for two additional six-year terms after his current term as president expires in 2024.

When asked if Putin intended to run in the upcoming elections, Peskov responded to reporters on January 22: “The president has not made any announcements in this respect.”

He continued, “Work continues as part of the president’s normal everyday timetable.

When asked if the Kremlin had begun planning for the campaign, Peskov responded that it was “too early” to discuss because there were “a lot of current affairs” at the Kremlin.

Putin has “a very busy agenda and a very active calendar,” he continued.
