At a Hong Kong slaughterhouse, a butcher was killed by a stunned pig that was due to be butchered.

According to the police, the 61-year-old butcher blasted the animal with a shock pistol to kill it. But then the pig woke up and threw him to the ground.

A coworker discovered the butcher with a left foot injury and a meat cleaver still in his grasp at the Sheung Shui Slaughterhouse in northern Hong Kong.

The butcher appeared to have been pushed over by the stumbling pig on Friday, Jan. 20, and suffered a cut from the 15 inch blade, though investigators have not yet determined the exact cause of death.

Despite being rushed to the hospital, the butcher was eventually declared dead.

The Labour Department of Hong Kong has opened an investigation and will make safety recommendation.

According to a spokeswoman, “The Labour Department is devastated by the person’s passing and offers its sincere condolences to his family.

“We will finish the investigation as soon as possible to determine the accident’s cause, determine the duty holders’ liability, and offer corrective actions.”

The butcher’s family was sent condolences by the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department of Hong Kong, which oversaw the slaughterhouse.
