Rishi Sunak, the prime minister of the United Kingdom, was fined by Lancashire Police for not using a seatbelt while recording a video for social media in the backseat of a moving vehicle.

After the video was shared on Instagram during a trip to the region to discuss Levelling Up financing, he expressed regret for the “short error of judgment.”

This is Mr. Sunak’s second fixed penalty notice; when he was chancellor, he received a £50 ticket for breaking the Covid lockdown rules during one of the gatherings that gave rise to the Partygate affair. According to reports from the time, Mr. Sunak had to be “talked out” of quitting due to the fine.

You probably already know that a video that has been making the rounds on social media depicts a passenger in a moving car in Lancashire without fastening their seatbelt.

After investigating the situation, we handed a 42-year-old male from London a conditional offer of fixed penalty today (Friday, January 20th).

Mr. Sunak will pay the fee, according to a No. 10 spokeswoman, who also stated that he “completely accepts this was a mistake and has apologized.”

The spokesperson continued, “It was a mistake of judgment; he removed it for a brief period of time to make a clip, which you’ve seen, but he acknowledges that was a mistake.

After Mr. Sunak was previously shown struggling to use his card to make a contactless payment with his card in a gas station, Labour criticized the footage and claimed that it added to the “endless painful viewing” of Mr. Sunak.

“Hapless Rishi Sunak’s leveling-up photo op has blown up in his face and made him into a laughing stock,” a party spokesperson stated.

“He began the week with the hope that the people would appreciate receiving a portion of the money that had been taken from them over the previous 13 years by the Tories. Instead, he received a quarreling party and yet another police fine.

“They manage to make this Tory government look even more stupid just when you thought it couldn’t get much worse.”

The AA also stated: “No matter who you are, it is crucial to wear your seatbelt when in the automobile.” They also cautioned of the risks of not using a seatbelt.

The Prime Minister’s fine comes as his own government is debating toughening seatbelt regulations that might result in drivers who don’t wear them receiving license points.
