Francis Atwoli, the secretary general of the Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU), saw President William Ruto on Thursday at the official residence in Nairobi. There, he reportedly begged the president to pardon him for endorsing former prime minister Raila Odinga’s candidacy on August 9th.
Atwoli led a formidable army of Luhya chiefs that opposed Ruto’s leadership during the contentious election.
Amazingly, Ruto prevailed in the election, leaving Atwoli and his group out in the cold like coyotes.
Atwoli is believed to have gone to the influential CS and pleaded for a meeting with Ruto after he chose Musalia Mudavadi as Prime Cabinet Secretary.
At the meeting on Thursday, Atwoli urged Ruto to make amends with all the figures supporting Raila Odinga and ask their pardon for doing so.
According to a source who attended the Ruto-Atwoli state House meeting, “He was subtly pleading for Ruto’s pardon for backing Raila Odinga.”
