John Wanderi, a seller at the Ndeiya shopping center in Kiambu county, was attacked by three thugs and shot dead in broad daylight.

The thugs crashed into the motorcycle minutes after Wandeli opened at 1:00 p.m.

Witnesses said the gang wore masks.

They grabbed an envelope from Wanderi and hurried away.

“The archer saw me and casually walked and rode his bike. They received an envelope from him that supposedly contained money,” said a witness.

One of the town merchants said the envelope contained dowry money.

He left to withdraw cash from a nearby bank.

The 34-year-old businessman planned to pay his wife’s dowry in Nyahururu and become a respected member of society.

“We believe the envelope contained a significant sum of money. They stole it before leaving while pointing their guns at someone who appeared to be raising the alarm,” the dealer said.

His family estimates that the stolen money may have been close to 300,000 shillings from him, as it included money he paid to a weekly supplier. Ndeiya District Police Chief Rosylin Mnyolmo confirmed the incident and said the robbers shot Wanderi at point-blank range, killing him instantly.

Munyormo urged merchants and villagers to provide information to help the police track down the thugs.

The body of the deceased was taken to Tigoni’s Funeral Home.
