After outsmarting President Uhuru Kenyatta, the Deep State, and the System to win the presidency, Deputy President William Ruto’s abilities as a politician are no longer in question.
But how did he do all of this while the deck was stacked against him?
Ruto started his campaigns too early in the day, to start with. After Uhuru and Raila Odinga’s handshake in March 2018, Ruto said he was expelled from the government.
Second, Ruto made a determined effort to wrest control of the Mt. Kenya region from Uhuru’s tight hold.
Years before the polls, it was predicted that Mt. Kenya will be the deciding factor in the 2022 General Election.
Analysts noted that the 3.1 million voters in Central Kenya, which has five counties, are equal to those in the Nyanza area, which has six counties, including Kisii and Nyamira.
They also pointed out that it would be the first election in Kenya without a presidential candidate from Mount Kenya.
Ruto repeatedly visited Mount Kenya, displeasing President Uhuru Kenyatta and his friends. Additionally, he persuaded the politicians to defect from their leader, Uhuru, by promising them a larger share of his administration.
