Dr. William Ruto, the presidential candidate for the Kenya Kwanza Alliance, is now officially the fifth President of the Republic of Kenya, according to the Kenyan DAILY POST.
Ruto, 55, a former chicken vendor, defeated Raila Odinga, the Azimio presidential candidate, according to results tallied by Reuters, the BBC, and Standard Media Group.
The winner will be declared at roughly 3 p.m. by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), which is still double-checking the Form 34As from more than 46,229 polling places in the 291 seats.
Ruto’s residence in Karen received heightened security, with special presidential guards taking over his security and his outriders being elevated to presidential status.
In the meantime, Raila Odinga, who, according to IEBC sources, came in second, will gather at the Kenyatta International Convention Center (KICC) to decide whether to accept Ruto’s victory or appeal it to the Supreme Court.
