After dramatically failing to persuade the Mt. Kenya area, especially her own Kirinyaga County, to support Baba in the just finished General Election, Raila Odinga’s running mate, Martha Karua, is allegedly furious.
This comes after the UDA of Deputy President William Ruto won nearly every regional election.
All four of the constituencies in Martha Karua’s County were won by UDA, reports claim.
However, in Kirinyaga County, Raila Odinga’s Azimio was unable to secure a single seat.
Gichimu Githinji, a UDA candidate, was re-elected in the Gichugu Constituency, where Martha Karua cast her ballot on Tuesday, August 9.
The Independent candidate Peterson Njomo, who was his closest rival, received 15, 069 votes.
Mary Maingi defeated incumbent Kabinga Wathayu of the Jubilee party to win the Mwea Constituency.
Wathayu received 31,735 votes compared to Maingi’s 50,667 votes.
On behalf of the UDA party, George Kariuki won reelection in the Ndia Constituency.
Gachoki Gitari, a former UDA member who defeated Jubilee party incumbent Munene Wambugu in Kirinyaga Central, made a comeback.
The vote-rich Mt. Kenya area, according to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission’s (IEBC) results, heavily supported William Ruto.
While the vote tallying is almost over, Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru is expected to keep her position as governor.
As of yesterday, incumbent Ann Waiguru was ahead with 112, 932 votes, leaving Kirinyaga Woman Rep Purity Wangui Ngirici in second place with 104, 980 votes.
