The United Democratic Alliance, led by Deputy President William Ruto, has filed a lawsuit challenging the High Court’s directive for the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to use a manual voter registration.
The petitioner asserted that if the electoral authority used a manual register, the integrity of the voting process would be at risk.
The commission had earlier insisted that the election on Tuesday, August 9, will only employ the electronic KIEMS kits.
However, on Friday, August 5, the High Court ordered IEBC to include the manual registers; they have now complied with this decision.
Advocates of the Azimio la Umoja group welcomed the proposal to employ manual registers as a backup. The UDA party, on the other hand, favored a completely electronic register.
