The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) acted quickly and summoned the four presidential candidates to discuss the problem, barely a day after former prime minister Raila Odinga expressed grave concerns about the printing of duplicate results declaration Forms 34A and 34B.

The four presidential candidates are expected to meet with the Commission on Friday, July 29, at the Bomas of Kenya, according to a letter signed by Marjan Hussein Marjan, the IEBC’s chief executive officer.

The letter stated, in part, that “the goal of this letter is to invite you and/or your representatives to a consultative meeting to address the concerns mentioned.”

It was a “disturbing situation,” according to Raila and his team, who had questioned why the IEBC was printing the forms in triplicate.

In order to check the quality of the printing on election materials, the former prime minister dispatched two members of his staff to Athens, Greece.

The Azimio team wrote to the IEBC Chairman, Wafula Chebukati, requesting explanation on the brought up problem.

Azimio highlighted in its letter that the electoral officials said when asked why there were duplicate forms, “that extra forms were to be provided to election observers, journalists, and other stakeholders.”

The team was not persuaded, observing that the printing of the result declaration form contained further errors. The team said that each form had a unique serial number.

The Azimio team had expressed disappointment with the company selected to produce the election materials back in June.

According to Raila’s team, the Inform Lykos Company was responsible for the postponement of the General Election in Nigeria in February 2019.

This comes even as Deputy President William Ruto and his Kenya Kwanza have been defending the electoral commission and Chebukati himself from Azimio’s attack.
