Rigathi Gachagua, the vice presidential candidate for the Kenya Kwanza Alliance, has charged that President Uhuru Kenyatta was behind the Nairobi court’s decision on Thursday ordering him to turn over Sh 200 million in his accounts because they are the proceeds of crime.
The money was frozen at the beginning of this year, and the court declared it to be the “proceeds of corruption” in a decision made by Lady Justice Esther Maina.
The Mathira MP did not provide any products or services in exchange for the money, the court further determined.
However, in his response, Gachagua, who is DP Ruto’s running mate, claimed that Uhuru was behind the lawsuit to humiliate him since he is backing DP Ruto.
Gachagua added that Uhuru is free to accept the funds but that DP Ruto will have the support of the entire Mount Kenya area when he assumes office in August.
“I want Uhuru to know that he is free to grab my money. The Mt Kenya people and I would make sure that Ruto arrives in the State House in August even if they take my money or imprison me, Gachagua vowed.
