Only three weeks before he leaves office, President Uhuru Kenyatta presented the coveted presidential awards to members of his family.

Two of Uhuru’s relatives have been listed as beneficiaries of this year’s presidential awards: his niece Nana Gecaga and nephew Jomo Gecaga.

Jomo, who formerly assisted President Uhuru, received the third-class distinction of Kenya’s highest accolade, the Order of the Golden Heart (OGH).

On the other side, Nana Gecaga was accorded second-class distinction under the Order of the Burning Spear, the third-highest honor (OBS).

Children of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s sister, Jeni Wambui Gecaga, Jomo and Nana Gecaga are related.

The Chief of the Order of Burning Spear was also presented to State House spokesperson Kanze Dena, judges Isaac Lenaola and Daniel Musinga, and Registrar of Political Parties Anne Nderitu (CBS).

The accolades for President Uhuru’s close family members came barely one day after Kenyatta University nominated President Uhuru’s sister Kristina Wambui Pratt for the awarding of an honorary degree.

The University stated in a notification that Wambui’s nomination was made in honor of her dedication to and work on behalf of those with disabilities.
