Dr. Karanja Kibicho, principal secretary for interior, has refuted allegations made by Kenya Kwanza Alliance leaders that he directed chiefs and assistant chiefs in Kirinyaga County to support Raila Odinga for president on behalf of Azimio-One Kenya Alliance.
On Saturday, officials of the Kenya Kwanza Alliance, led by Justin Muturi, Speaker of the National Assembly, asserted that Kibicho had also instructed chiefs in areas thought to be Deputy President William Ruto’s strongholds, such as the Mt. Kenya region, to get Identity cards.
According to Muturi, there is a larger scheme to rig the election for Raila on August 9th, and chiefs have been pushing citizens to provide their IDs in exchange for work.
In response, Kibicho countered that Ruto and his group have no plans for Kenyans and have instead decided to disseminate disinformation about election cheating.
The chiefs are people, but where have you seen them running for office? Those folks ought to leave our administrators alone; we have observed this pattern for some time.
“Our chiefs are qualified individuals who are impartial in this election. Such accusations are currently being made by them to garner sympathy votes, which will not be successful, according to Kibicho.
