Dr. Boni Khalwale, a former senator from Kakamega, looks to be running into opposition as he attempts to succeed Cleophas Malala as the next senator from Kakamega.
Khalwale, who is running for the Kakamega senate seat on the UDA party ticket of Deputy President William Ruto, is currently begging with Raila Odinga’s Azimio to assist him in reclaiming the seat that he previously held.
In a video that has recently reappeared online, Khalwale is seen pleading with the departing governor of Kakamega, Wycliffe Oparanya of the ODM (Azimio), to support him in the run-off election against Brian Lishenga of the ODM party.
“Khalwale anataka nimuombee kura. Unajua Khalwale ni rafiki yangu… lakini ubaya ni ile nyumba ambaye yeye ako ndani. Mimi niko nyumba ingine na yeye ako nyumba ingine,” Oparanya says as the crowd burst in laughter.
Oparanya, who is in the opposition camp, playfully declined and claimed that he cannot advocate for Khalwale in the video.
If Raila forms the next government, Oparanya, who has been promised the position of Treasury Cabinet Secretary, is heard indicating that he could have supported Khalwale as his successor if Khalwale were a member of the ODM party.
