Prof. Makau Mutua, the campaign spokesperson for former prime minister Raila Odinga, has left a high-level position to focus on Jakom’s August presidential campaign.
Makau has resigned from his position as chairman of the KNHRC Board of Directors, the Kenya National Human Rights Commission (KNHRC) stated in a statement released on Thursday.
“The KHRC is pleased to announce Davinder Lamba’s appointment as acting head of the Board… In order to focus on the Azimio election campaign, Professor Makau Mutua has resigned from his position as Chair of the Board, according to a statement to the press released by KNHRC.
Prof. Mutua received his education from the Universities of Nairobi, Dar es Salaam, and Harvard Law School, where he graduated with a doctorate in jurisprudence in 1987.
He has held many leadership positions within the American Society of International Law (ASIL), including vice president, executive council member, and co-chair of the organization’s annual meeting in 2000.

He frequently offers commentary on politics, international law, and human rights in both print and internet media. Major American newspapers like the New York Times, Boston Globe, and The Washington Post have also carried his work.
