According to a Mizani Africa opinion poll, former prime minister Raila Odinga no longer has influence over Kajiado County.

The vast county, which borders Nairobi county on one side, has always been Raila Odinga’s bastion, but the most recent game of numbers indicates Raila has lost it.

The pollster predicts that Katoo Ole Metito, a member of the United Democratic Alliance, will easily win the Kajiado County governorship if the election were to be called today.

According to the survey, Ole Metito will win the seat with 37.8 percent, closely followed by Joseph Ole Lenku of the Orange Democratic Movement with 34.0 percent, and former Kajiado Governor David Nkedienye in third place with 27.0 percent.

The poll is a major loss because Raila Odinga has dominated Maasai territory for more than 20 years.

But based on the poll, Ruto, the presidential candidate for the Kenya Kwanza Alliance, appears to have surpassed Raila in popularity.
