- Azimio la Umoja Raila Odinga, the presidential candidate for one of the Kenya coalition parties, has made it clear what he will do if Deputy President William Ruto defeats him in the August poll.
This comes after his opponents pushed him to declare his public acceptance of defeat in August.
The presidential candidate for the United Democratic Alliance has claimed Raila has a history of refusing to accept results made public by the electoral commission.
Violence following elections has, in the past, allegedly been caused by Raila’s repeated inability to accept defeat, according to Ruto and his team.
Raila declared in a recent interview that if he lost to Ruto in the August elections, he was ready to concede defeat.
In the contest between him and me, Raila declared, “I’m the sportsman, and I know that asiyekubali kushindwa sio mushindani (He who doesn’t admit loss is not a sportsman)).”

The ODM leader, who will make his fifth attempt to win the presidency, had previously been evasive when asked if he would accept the results of the polls in August if he lost.
The previous prime minister once made a suggestion that he would only accept the outcomes of free and fair elections, which drew ire from Ruto’s alliance.
He was adamant that he would only accept the outcome of the election “IF” it is free and fair and he wins or loses,
The ODM leader has three times claimed that the results of the presidential elections in 2007 and 2013 and 2017 were manipulated against him.
