Richarlyson, a former Brazil international, has come out as bisexual.
The first player from a Brazilian top-flight squad to come out in public is the 39-year-old, who participated in two international matches back in 2008.
In his interview with Nos Armarios dos Vestiarios, Richarlyson, who has spent the majority of his career in Brazil, discussed dating both men and women. He also criticized the prevalence of homophobia in his nation and football.
“I’ve been asked if I’m gay my entire life. I had connections with both men and women,” Richarlyson claimed in the podcast that the website Globo Esporte aired.
I am a typical person with desires and wishes. I’ve dated both guys and women. Then what?
I chose to speak it today because so many people have told me it’s crucial that I stand up. Ich bin bisexual.
Richarlyson, a former football player who retired last year, also said he chose not to come out while he was playing because he “didn’t want to be ruled out because of his sexuality.”
The news was released in response to Blackpool player Jake Daniels’ choice to come out as the first out gay professional football player since Justin Fashanu in 1990 and the only one in the United Kingdom.
