Johnson Sakaja, a UDA gubernatorial candidate, is fighting a petition before the IEBC Disputes Resolution Committee over claims that he has a bogus degree certificate.
Dennis Gakuu Wahome, a Nairobi voter, wants Sakaja prohibited from running for governor since he lacks the required degree for a gubernatorial candidate.
If the IEBC committee agrees with the petitioner, the young politician would be forced to run in the August elections and could face criminal charges for falsifying academic papers.
Nominated Senator Millicent Omanga stated Sakaja’s condition is politically motivated in response to the issue surrounding his scholarly works.
Omanga claimed on Twitter that there are significant elements who are worried Sakaja would defeat Polycarp Igathe of the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition party.
“Avoid being duped. The deep state’s political witch-hunt against Sakaja over his degree is an attempt to blunt his momentum after they recognized he would destroy Igathe. a policy of scorched ground. He will prevail. stated Omanga.
Sakaja asserted that he earned a Bachelor of Science in Management from Team University in Uganda in an affidavit submitted to the IEBC Disputes Resolution Committee.
That in addition to my other credentials and honors, Team University in Uganda awarded me a Bachelor of Science in Management degree after I met all conditions for it, Sakaja stated in his answering affidavit.
“Team University in Uganda is duly recognized in the Republic of Uganda and by convention Kenya, contrary to the false allegations by the complainants,” he continued.
