According to a recent survey by Mizani Africa, James Orengo, a senator from Siaya, has little chance of winning the Siaya governor’s seat in the general election on August 9.

According to the poll, which was made public on Thursday, Nicholus Gumbo of the United Democratic Movement (UDM) would win the seat by receiving 46.1 percent of the total number of votes submitted.

With 44.7 percent of the vote, Orengo, a candidate for the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party and a close associate of former prime minister Raila Odinga, would come in second.

With 6.7 percent of the vote, independent George Mbeya finished third.

This suggests that the ODM party needs to exert more effort in order to preserve the county where Raila Odinga, the Azimio-One Kenya Alliance’s presidential candidate in August, resides.

The Mizani Africa poll’s graphical portrayal of the Siaya governor’s race is shown below.
