After the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) disallowed former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko from running for office in August due to pending corruption allegations against him, former vice president Kalonzo Musyoka voiced disappointment with the organization.

Sonko was disqualified and filed an appeal against the IEBC’s decision. Sonko has indicated an interest in running for Mombasa Governor on the Wiper Democratic Movement party ticket.

Kalonzo, who had followed Sonko to the IEBC hearing committee, appeared for the hearing scheduled for today and expressed his displeasure with the Wafula Chebukati-led commission, accusing it of lacking independence.

Sonko is like his child, according to Kalonzo, who also cautioned those who believe the former Nairobi governor has no political godfather to reconsider.

He gave the Wiper party’s legal counsel the order to submit a preliminary objection to the IEBC’s decision to prevent Sonko from contesting right away.
