Miguna Miguna, a controversial lawyer, has claimed that the government is planning to rig the August 9th election in favor of Azimio–One Kenya Alliance presidential candidate Raila Odinga.
Raila Odinga and William Ruto, the Kenya Kwanza Alliance presidential candidate, are in a two-horse contest for the 2022 election.
Raila Odinga has a distinct edge in that he has the support of the incumbent and the state apparatus.
On Monday, Miguna declared on social media that the government had used hundreds of techniques to assure Raila Odinga’s victory in August.
Miguna, who lives in exile in Canada, believes that one of the methods to rig an election is to disclose multiple opinion surveys showing Raila Odinga winning.
He also said that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission’s (IEBC) decision to bar numerous presidential candidates from running in August is part of the government’s plot to rig the election.
Miguna finished by claiming that the IEBC’s decision to only employ electronic registers in polling sites is part of a ‘deep state’ plan to rig elections.
“RIGGING PLANS Fake opinion polls. Fake voters’ register. Blocking many presidential candidates. Failed election results transmission simulation. IEBC use of only electronic voter register at polling stations. CSs and Civil servants campaigning for 1 candidate,” Miguna wrote on his social media page.
