The IEBC has cleared Murang’a Senator Irungu Kang’ata to compete for Murang’a Governor in the forthcoming August General Election.
Kang’ata was cleared, as was his running companion Winnie Mwangi, who had previously been forbidden from running because she had failed to retire within the required timeframes, according to the IEBC.
According to reports, Ms Mwangi failed to quit by February 9, despite the fact that the Elections Act compels public employees seeking elective positions to leave six months before an election.
Before being picked as Kang’ata’s running mate, she worked as a lecturer at the University of Nairobi for more than 25 years.
Kang’ata, who was quick to react, blamed the mishap on malice, stating that the race’s candidates had banded together.
