The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has allowed Deputy President William Ruto and his running mate, Rigathi Gachagua, to contest the presidential election in August.

Ruto expressed his joy at being cleared today at the Bomas of Kenya, and cautioned his opponents, including Raila Odinga, to brace themselves for a tough campaign.

He promised IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati that they will work together to achieve a free, fair, and transparent election.

“Dear Kenyans, I’d want to express my heartfelt condolences I’m overjoyed to receive the certificate that will allow Kenya Kwanza and me to run in this year’s general election alongside my capable deputy.

“Mr. Chairman, Kenya kwanza trusts the IEBC.

“I also want to pledge that my Kenya kwanza team and I would work tirelessly with you to ensure a free, fair, and transparent election.” Mr Chairman, I want to assure you that we are available whenever you require our assistance or support in any form,” Ruto added.

Prof. Kithure Kindiki was also named Chief Agent, with Veronica Maina and Josphat Nanok as his assistants, to serve as the contact between Kenya Kwanza and the IEBC.
