After announcing Martha Karua as his running mate, Raila has earned support in three Mt Kenya counties.
This comes as Deputy President William Ruto’s reputation in the region is rapidly dwindling following his selection of Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua as his running mate.
In comparison to the nomination of Rigathi Gachagua as Ruto’s running mate, Martha Karua’s nomination appears to have had an immediate impact on the 2022 presidential contest.
According to Mizani Africa polls, Ruto’s popularity has plummeted in Nyeri, Kirinyaga, and Tharaka Nithi counties in the last few days.
Kenya Kwanza’s popularity has declined by 3.3 percent in Tharaka Nithi County, while Raila Odinga’s has improved by 0.4 percent.
Raila has won 6.2 percent in Nyeri County, where Kenya Kwanza presidential running partner Rigathi Gachagua is from, while Ruto has lost 3.6 percent.
According to the poll, Raila Odinga, the Azimio candidate, has gained 10.2 percent in popularity in Kirinyaga County, while his major opponent has lost 4.2 percent.
Despite the fact that Raila Odinga’s running mate for 2022 lacks Rigathi Gachagua’s mobilization skills, she has committed to camp on Mt Kenya to ensure Raila defeats Ruto in the vote-rich region.
She has held more than 30 public rallies across five counties since her nomination to promote Raila Odinga’s presidential ambition in 2022.
