Raila Odinga and his running mate, Martha Karua, are doomed, according to governance expert Peter Kagwanja, who claims that Deputy President William Ruto will devour them for breakfast in August.
During an interview, Kagwanja argued that by choosing Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua as his running mate, Ruto had effectively locked Raila and Karua out of the vote-rich Mt. Kenya area.
Gachagua, according to Kagwanja, has exceptional mobilization talents that no other politician in Mt Kenya, even Karua, can equal.
“Ruto has Mt Kenya’s people, but he could lose them.” Rigathi was the finest option for him. “All his side needed to finish the race was his courage, fury, and streetwise talents,” Kagwanja remarked.
Ruto, he said, required someone who could ring-fence the votes he had already “earned” in Mt Kenya.
“Ruto doesn’t need Gachagua to get votes in Mount Kenya; he already has them.” He requires a commander who can assist him in holding the ground he already possesses… “That individual is Gachagua,” he began.
The Mathira MP’s mobilizing talents, according to Kagwanja, began during their school days.
“I remember Rigathi from our school days. Jaguar was his nickname. He was more innovative than any of us in terms of generating revenue. “We could drive to Mombasa, but he could fly,” Kagwanja observed.
DP Ruto, according to Kagwanja, would not have chosen Kithure Kindiki as a running mate since he would have easily lost control of the Mt Kenya region.
