On Tuesday, May 17, Malindi Member of Parliament Aisha Jumwa spoke out against Deputy President William Ruto’s appointment of Governor Amason Kingi as a Kenya Kwanza coordinator in Kilifi County.

Kingi’s poor performance as county executive over the last decade, she told the press, threatened to weaken the United Democratic Alliance’s (UDA) support in the coastal region.

She insisted that the outgoing governor undergo a purification process with county residents before taking on the responsibilities that had been bestowed upon him.

“We are afraid that his poor record as county leader would damage UDA’s credibility in the county unless he cleans up his act with the Kilifi people,” said the group. Aisha Jumwa, the Kilifi County UDA coordinator, will be there.

“Kilifi locals are still apprehensive about Kingi’s performance as the county’s governor. As a result, we ask Deputy President William Ruto to start making advances in Kilifi while cleaning himself, so that he can consolidate the votes he was going to earn in Kilifi,” the outspoken MP stated.

Jumwa also criticized the governor’s purported plans to turn the county into a Pamoja African Alliance (PAA) Zone.

“There will be no zoning in the county, which was a major factor in Kingi’s decision to join Kenya Kwanza, so I’m confident he won’t bring anything new.” As far as I know, Kilifi is a UDA zone: six wheelbarrows.”

While introducing Rigathi Gachagua as his running mate, Ruto stated that Kenya Kwanza would allow all constituent parties to field candidates in all elective seats.

He stressed that just one candidate will be on the ballot, based on scientific facts, to avoid imminent sibling rivalry among constituent parties.

“We are a free and willing democratic coalition.” All political parties will be allowed to run candidates. “However, we will present scientific data on each candidate’s performance to our candidates in every ward, seat, and county,” the DP added.

Political zoning has harmed the unity of both Azimio and Kenya Kwanza. Mutua joined Ruto’s side after switching sides.

He was against Machakos County being declared a Wiper Party hotspot.
ODM and Jubilee have parted.
